VA Aid & Attendance
If you’re a veteran or a surviving spouse of a veteran, you may be eligible for extra financial support through the VA Aid & Attendance program. This benefit is available in addition to your standard VA pension, and can help cover the cost of care for those who need assistance with daily living.

Who Can Qualify?
You may be eligible if you receive a VA pension and meet at least one of the following conditions:
- You need help from another person to do daily tasks like bathing, dressing, or eating.
- You live in a nursing home due to a physical or mental disability.
- Your vision is very limited—even with glasses or contact lenses (5/200 vision or worse in both eyes, or a very narrow visual field).
Military Service Requirements
To qualify, the veteran must have:
- An honorable discharge
- Served at least 90 days on active duty
- Served at least one day during a wartime period
Recognized Wartime Period
- World War I: April 6, 1917 – November 11, 1918
- World War II: December 7, 1941 – December 31, 1946
- Korean Conflict: June 27, 1950 – January 31, 1955
- Vietnam Era:
- Veterans who served in the Republic of Vietnam (February 28, 1961-May 7, 1975)
- Veterans who did not serve in the Republic of Vietnam (August 5, 1964-May 7, 1975)
- Gulf War: August 2, 1990 – [A future date to be set by law]
